PM - 13.1 miles for a long run.  Finn had a gimpy leg and so he was sidelined - and all of my training friends had already done their workouts   - so this was a solo effort.  Much warmer in the low 50's.  Enjoyed it.

AM - 5 miles with Dan and his dog.  Giving Finn another day or two off to allow his muscle strain (or whatever it is) to recover.   Riley is heading back to Boston today.

AM - 7.5 miles with Dan and the dogs - foggy in the mid 30's with a colorful sky at sunrise with the fog burning off.  Nice easy effort.

AM - 10k with Dan and the dogs.  Quite foggy.   Needed to get in at least 7k today to meet my December Strava Challenge of 300k.

Quick year in review of 2020 for my running blog:

The year was difficult and challenging for the whole world with COVID-19 pandemic.   My job as many shifted from an in-office and frequent travelling gig, to one in which I worked from home and attended video conferences.   We were fortunate and blessed with our situation, but many were not.

In a way though it gave us time to reconnect more meaningfully as a family.  Two of my daughters spent extended periods with us in the late spring and early summer from their homes in the Northeast - one having been furloughed from her job and the other working remotely on her law degree.   My eldest daughter and her husband had their first child and because they live about 10 mins from us, we have been really pleased to spend a great deal of time enjoying our first granddaugther.

Running-wise of course there were many race plans changed and cancelled that were on my calendar - but I made the most of it accepting different kinds of challenges and creating a few of my own:

  • The Boston Marathon was postponed and then canceled and shifted to a virtual event - so I did on a treadmill and ran a decent time of 3:15.
  • For Global Running Day - I ran 1 mile ever hour for 24 hours
  • The Peachtree Road Race was postponed and then canceled and shifted to a virtual event - and I ran on my own course a decent time of 41:27
  • I covered just over 2300 miles of running this year - which is an increase of about 200 miles over last year
  • I took only 3 days off from running the entire year.
  • Since March 1 - I have not taken a single day-off from running and I have now run over 300 days at least 3 miles per day - but averaging well over 5 miles per day.  My personal goal is to run for a full year without a day off.

I have run most days in the morning - chasing the sunrise with my dog Finn and for much of the year with my neigbbor Dan and another friend Greg.   We have grown to be closer friends as a result.

I have not been injured or sick the entire year and no one in my immediate family has been ill with the virus or otherwise.  Although we have experienced loss in our extended families and know of many close to us who have not been as fortunate - we continue to pray and be hopeful for things to improve in the coming months and years.

AM - 5k on the treadmill- lots of heavy rain all day.  Awoke with some type of stomach bug and was really feeling unwell for much of the day.

AM - 8.25 miles with Dan and Greg with their dogs.  Kept Finn home to give his injury a little more rest.   I felt like I would run easy and maybe shorter than what the guys had in mind - but it was a nice day and my body seemed to recover from whatever had me down yesterday.  Perhaps it was something that I had eaten that didn't agree with me.   Hope that I don't regret it later.
