AM - 3.5 slow easy miles with Finn before work.  Noticed a few little dings...right achilles and left foot top.   

PM - lunchtime - treadmill fartlek workout.  Basically 1 min on/off at 5k pace with a warm up and cool down.  Felt fine on this workout.  Not too taxing.

AM - I decided that I would prefer not to have the "discomfort" that I noticed in the top of the left foot advance/progress any worse - and honestly it is barely noticeable - but I have been down this road before with stress fractures; so I walked 2 miles with Finn this morning instead of running and then did some rowing and yoga thereafter.  Will likely do some elliptical machine work at lunchtime.   

Looked back at a similar issue I had in February/March 2018.   Took about 10 days of cross-training to drop out of any mention in the day logs.   My memory is that this is probably less severe than that, so I will plan to cross train for a few days or a week and gradually reintroduce some running as tolerated.   

PM - 8 miles on the elliptical at an HR rate equivalent to a solid running effort (without the pounding).   I don't particularly like ellipticals or cross training, but as I listened to the "Running to the Edge" book and the discussion about Meb - they mentioned that he would use elliptical machines and ellipti-go bikes as cross training to moderate the workload/pounding that running was putting on his aging body.   It inspired me to keep at it.

AM - 2 miles walking with Finn before work.  Foot felt nearly 100%.  Quads were heavy from yesterday's cross training however.

PM - 5.5 miles on the elliptical.   Not as high of an effort as yesterday.  Feel remarkably better with just 2 days of cross training instead of running.

PM - took Finn to Birmingham Park for a trail run.  Mostly single track - a bit technical.  Soft surfaces were good for my foot.  Really did not notice it.

AM - Finn got me out at daybreak today for an easy hour of running.  Pleasant morning. Hilly route - horses out in pastures, deer all over and roosters crowing - couple of hot air balloons in the sky as we finished.  No foot issues.

AM - in San Antonio for a business conference - random run out and back on what turned  out to be a bit of a sketchy area - hot and humid even before sunrise.  Not enjoyable.  Oh well.

AM - a little over 7.5 miles mostly along the river walk in San Antonio.  Really buggy with swarms of gnats - and as a result a bunch of bats.  Spent a fair amount of time dealing with avoiding swallowing and inhaling the gnats.  Slow but decent run.

AM - staying on Clearwater Beach - here for a business luncheon - retirement for one of my paralegals and then my 35th class reunion this evening.  You know you are old when ...  Anyway - I ran on the beach in the old Vibram shoes.  Enjoyed it.  Easy effort.  Concerned about the left foot at times and at other times not at all.   Many years of running and racing on these sands.  Evidently the Dunedin pass on the north end no longer exists because my gps tells me I ran over it on to Caledesi Island but I never saw it.

AM - 16.5 miles in Virginia Beach.  Came here yesterday to stay with my brother-in-law for a few days.  He lives about 10 minutes or so from the Ocean by car, but the roads to get there are a little dangerous for running; so I found a lake in a nearby subdivision with a running / walking path around it and did laps.  Each loop was between 1.5 and 1.75 miles.   Flat and humid, but a good run.

AM - 3.5 miles with Finn - very easy before work - and travel late this evening to the UK.

PM - lunchtime treadmill workout.  Cruise intervals 5 x 2000 at tempo with a 1 min rest.  Felt strong at the beginning of this workout - as I have been sort of resting and not running too intensely due to the somewhat fickle left foot pain/injury.  Good workout.

AM - 15.25 miles in London.  From my hotel around Hyde Park, in front of Buckingham Palace, down the Mall, across Westminster Bridge (Big Ben in scaffolds) along the River Thames, across Tower Bridge and back around.   Really nice weather beautiful day before grabbing breakfast and heading to the airport for home.

Planned day of rest from running.  

Did 12.5 miles of low impact riding on the Peloton bike.   Did something to my neck, no trauma that I can recall, but it really is stiff and is getting increasingly worse.

Rode the Peloton bike after walking a mile or so with Finn outside.  Did a mile on the treadmill of walking at a 12% grade - neck hurts and foot was achy too.

AM - 2 miles of walking with Finn and then some yoga.   Neck was excruciating - did not sleep well, and literally could not run without pain.  Chiropractic appt this morning.

PM - lunchtime - did 7.5 miles on the elliptical at decent HR - equivalent to an easy run.   Chiro did an adjustment to my neck - will be seeing him for several days over the few weeks...Neck improved a bit after the adjustment.  Feeling pretty banged up.
